McCain & Flake Introduce Amendment on Interstate 11

Statement

U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) introduced an amendment, along with Senators Harry Reid (D-NV) and Dean Heller (R-NV), to the 2015 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act that highlights the economic contributions Interstate 11 would have on the State of Arizona and the western United States. The proposed I-11 would run from the southern border of Arizona through Nevada -- including connecting Phoenix and Las Vegas -- to ultimately reach the Canadian border.

"Arizona has seen incredible growth in population size and across industries, and we need to ensure our infrastructure fosters future economic growth, international trade and job creation" said Senator McCain. "This amendment conveys the importance of the future Interstate 11, including a route that continues all the way to Arizona's southern border. The highway would be vital to unlocking our state's economic potential and to connecting Arizona's communities and economy to major domestic and international trade partners."

"I'm pleased to join my colleagues in cosponsoring this amendment to convey the importance of the I-11 designation," said Senator Flake. "The highway's potential to serve as a boon to U.S. trade and economic growth should be recognized."
